Home How do they build in Switzerland? Residential
Commercial, and a Barn!,Europe and America tend to operate using different strategies, but are their building techniques the same? Turns out Switzerland's building approaches are very interesting, Matt Risinger takes us on a trip to some houses and buildings to show us what's cool and very different from the usual styles in the US. Some homes use sheathing on the inside of the house instead of the outside, and rock wool bats in between the studs outside. It can get pretty cold in Switzerland, and Risinger stumbled upon how they keep warm. The homes have a 5-6 in. thick wood fiber insulation that is stabled to the outside of the house like a giant blanket. They also keep a pocket above their windows for the blinds to drop down, from the outside! They don't even use drywall, but rather a cellulose based material as a supplement which is fascinating when we think of how often drywall is used in homes all over the US. These are just a few examples of Swiss building science, take a peek at the full video to see the rest!
