Home Eliminate Doors and Windows For Air Tightness

Matt visits builder Jake Bruton to figure out what’s going on here. When you approach the house, it simply looks like a green box. No doors, no windows, and no walls! What’s up with that? Jake reassures us, though, when it’s done, it’ll look like a perfectly normal three bedroom, two bathroom home. For now, Jake is focused heavily on air sealing, which is why he’s approaching the build this way. By doing this, the crew has the ability to blow door test the house with just the envelope before making any mistakes. Then, once the windows are installed, they’ll test again. Inside, everything is taped to create one monolithic barrier, which is easier than trying to cut around all of the walls and plates and then seal the connections. In one big sheet, there are no penetrations other than the bit of lighting within. The house is engineered in such a way that they don’t have to worry about the partitions at the onset. Also in this video: Jake references his insulated floor which we learned about when he was onsite at his hybrid house just some days ago.
