Exterior Materials for Durability + PSL GlueLam Beams
James D LaRue was the architect on the house you'll see in this video and he selected beautiful rich materials. Matt Risinger shows off some creative uses for PSL Beams and Glulam beams in a modern home in Central Austin, TX. The house has an interesting California courtyard-type effect, with storefront windows between columns made of different materials. The center column is a cement board artisan siding by James Hardie, which will likely last the lifetime of the house. Some of the exterior beams used for structure (and appearance) are made of pine, and the horizontal beams are PSLs (parallel strand lumber), which is recycled pine woven together structurally. This makes for a strong and sustainable beam. Pine is great because it is a local resource to the southern U.S.
