Just like there are the right products to use and the wrong products to use when protecting your brick, block or masonry substrate from water intrusion, there are right and wrong ways to apply a protective treatment too.
Ideally you want to make both the right choices in this scenario, especially considering what you have invested in a masonry structure and that, if protected correctly, it can last for lifetimes, making it one of the most durable and resilient building materials out there.
Start by making sure your water repellent or protective treatment is reactive, meaning it penetrates into the substrate instead of forming a film on the surface. A reactive water repellent like PROSOCO’s Siloxane PD forms a chemical bond within the substrate itself, giving it the ability to breathe while keeping liquid water out.
Before you get started on applying the product to waterproof your vertical masonry substrate, you will want to be sure to protect any adjacent plant life or building materials like glass windows and metal from being unintentionally sprayed.
Al Morris, national sales manager with PROSOCO, provides more application tricks and techniques in this 100-second video to help ensure your masonry is water-tight.
